Rachel's Road to Atlanta! Day 4/5/6

So we have moved on from testing against Pawpsicle to testing against Discard. Josh is on Discard, and I’m still on Jafar! Discard seems to have a slightly different strategy for me. I still want the Blue Fairy, if possible, but Tinkerbell and Grab Your Swords feels awesome in this match since so many characters have a willpower of 1, 2 or 3.

Thoughts

So here is the breakdown. It took us a couple of days to get these games done since they were done before work. We are still doing 5 Bo2 matches, so 10 games. The first couple are open hand to figure out what the best plan is, and the next are ‘closed hands’ but we are still talking through the decisions at what feels like critical points.

Match 1: I won the second game but lost the first. It felt like Josh got a good hand… but it also felt like it was a different enough strategy that we had to figure it out a little more than the last two decks.

Match 2: I won both here. First game there was no early game blue fairy, and even though that did cut off the card draw a little, Discard feels slow enough that there was no real rush. Second game I played a Blue Fairy for the card draw when Josh had an Ursula out. I did have the 4 drop Jafar, and during Josh’s turn it felt like the Jafar would have been a better choice. The Jafar out meant that Josh would have been less able to sing with Ursula since I would have been able to banish her. I still won, but It’s good to know I have to be a little more fight-y against Discard.

On that note, Big Tinkerbell feels good here. When deciding on a mulligan or what to ink, she feels like a last choice. Also, Robin Hood being able to sing a turn 3 Grab Your Swords also feels good, especially if there is a Big Tink on her way!

We are streaming these testing games on Twitch when we do them, and I’m sure they will go on YouTube if you are interested in checking them out! They are less tournament style, and more lets go through all the thought process and possibilities and figure out how to play the decks the best. I’m finding it very helpful talking through everything, and if you’re interested in learning how to be a better deck pilot there might be some helpful tips in these videos for you too!

Anyways, that’s it for now!
